Job Role: Speech and Language Therapist

College Group: New City College

Location:

Hourly Pay Rate: £25

Working Days: Tuesday and Wednesday

Working Hours: 09:00 to 17:00

PURPOSE OF JOB:

  • To assess, diagnose and devise support for a caseload of students
  • To provide intervention and evaluate evidence-based outcomes for both individuals and groups of students. This will include developing programmes for students with speech, language and communication needs and SEMH.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with teaching and other staff and parents, providing assessment, training and therapy programmes.
  • Contribute to the development of Speech and Language therapy at the college.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. In common with all other staff:

  1. In common with all other staff:

2.1 To participate in college-wide projects and tasks.

2.2 To work in other support services areas to meet the specific needs of workload peaks.

2.3 Such other duties of a similar nature commensurate with the grade as may be required from time to time. This may/will require working in other campuses of the College.

  1. Particular to the Post:

3.1 To work independently to provide speech and language therapy input to learners with speech, language and communication difficulties for post 16 students dependent on caseload needs. To maintain professional standards of service through CPD and other developmental activities complying with the policies and procedures of the college. To provide training to other professionals, staff and colleagues. Assess speech, language and communicative skills using both formal and informal assessments. To analyse assessment results and develop therapy programs/plans, with SMART targets. To deliver speech and language therapy to individual learners on your caseload. To plan, prepare and deliver group therapy sessions. To work collaboratively with the teachers and support staff to deliver classroom[1]based interventions. To accurately evaluate therapy targets. To create resources and programs which can be used by all colleagues in the department. Write full and detailed reports for annual reviews on the pupils you work with. To maintain up to date and accurate case notes in line with the RCSLT professional standards. To provide advice to others regarding the management on the students’ speech language and communicative difficulties. To work independently as part of a multidisciplinary team. To organise and run training sessions/workshops for members of staff and other professionals. To provide support and guidance to parent and carers.

  1. Person Specification:

4.1 Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

4.2 Knowledge and experience of direct work with students and families where there are a variety of needs.

4.3 Experience of working in a similar role within a school or college setting.

4.5 Experience of designing and leading group and individual intervention programmes
