Morgan Hunt are currently working with a Healthcare Regulatory Body in their search for an interim Operational Manager (Regulation) to lead, motivate and provide both strategic and operational direction to a multi-disciplinary team.

You will be responsible for managing the Triage team, Protection of Title team and Administration team (each comprising of one manager and a number of reports) responsible for fitness to practise and non-fitness to practise case streams, and the department’s administrative case support function.
This will involve monitoring and leading the performance of the teams through managing and motivating staff, coaching direct reports to be strong and effective managers, as well as providing direction, support, guidance and setting clear objectives.
By working as part of the management team, you will lead on the design and delivery of improvement and developmental activities for your own function, actively engaging with others to develop and embed robust and effective change.
The successful candidate will have strong management experience, with the ability to lead, motivate and provide both strategic and operational direction to a multi-disciplinary team (ideally within the Regulatory/Public Sector or in an Investigative capacity). You will have excellent communication skills, the ability to drive change and continuous improvement with experience managing managers.

Location: Hybrid (1-2 days per week in London Office)
Annual Salary: £55,000 – £58,000
Job Type: Fixed Term Contract (12-15 months, potential extension)
Hours: Full-Time (35 hours per week)
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Fitness to Practise to promote a culture of continuous improvement in relation to the way service is delivered
- Analyse management information and other qualitative data to identify emerging issues and risks, taking a proactive and collaborative approach to solving cross functional operational issues
- Manage and motivate direct reports by providing direction and setting clear objectives and behaviours. Coach direct reports to be strong and effective managers, with the ability and resilience to identify and successfully tackle poor performance when it arises
- Monitor and lead the performance of the team by ensuring sufficient support, guidance and direction is provided and that human resource issues and any poor performance is managed quickly and effectively
- Review and develop systems for ensuring regulatory decisions are robust, proportionate and consistent and fulfil the organisations public protection objectives, especially in high-risk areas
- Ensure risk is managed through the undertaking of appropriate controls and checks at all stages of the process. Ensure the team operates in compliance with legislation, policies, processes and guidance that govern the work of the team
- Utilise quality assurance strategies to identify, develop and share best practice, ensuring that recommendations and learning from audits, reviews and other feedback is taken forward and embedded
- Using management information and other data to accurately forecast the function’s activities and work with the Head of Fitness to Practise to plan and manage the department’s budget
- Provide written responses to challenges and complaints about the decisions and the service provided, identifying and ensuring that learning for individuals or the team is identified and implemented
Person Specification
- Experience of managing teams in delivering time and quality critical business processes
- Ability to manage, lead and motivate employees (while supporting and developing them through coaching and feedback)
- Ability to identify training and development needs of employees
- Excellent influencing and interpersonal skills and ability to engage effectively with different audiences
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to plan and forecast the workload of the team, making effective use of resources to meet current and future operational demands
- Demonstrable ability to undertake methodical and thorough analysis of the root causes of problems, and use findings to inform creative and innovative solutions
- Ability to engage others in change, building consensus to deliver improvement projects in challenging circumstances
- Proven ability to produce accurate, high quality written reports and management information, presenting complex information clearly
- Experience of working within healthcare, professional regulation or other regulatory environments (desirable)
- Experience of proven change management tools and techniques and of developing and managing quality assurance systems (desirable)
