Learning Support practitioner responsibilities:
- Adapt teaching style with regards to students’ individual needs.
- Prepare learning materials for lesson plans.
- Support students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups.
- Work alongside the classroom teacher to ensure a smooth-running learning environment.
- Work with relevant professionals such as speech and language therapists
- Liaise with parents, carers, and guardians to ensure the best care of pupils.
- Build strong and professional relationships with both students and colleagues.
Learning Support practitioner qualifications/experience
- Experience in supporting students with additional needs including ADHD, Autism, and challenging behaviour (preferred but not essential)
- Familiarity in supporting young people on the autism spectrum (preferred but not essential)
- Knowledge of special education practices and strategies (preferred but not essential)
- Have substantial experience either the Further Education and Training sector or the Secondary Education sector (preferred but not essential)
- Have previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant and satisfactory references (preferred but not essential)
- Hold GCSEs in both Maths and English, at grade A-C or equivalent
- A valid DBS registered with the online update service or be willing to apply for a new one
- Proven experience of maintaining quality rapport with students, staff and parents/carers.
- Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) at Level 2 or above is essential.
- Knowledge of strategies and techniques for supporting students with hearing impairments or communication difficulties, including visual aids, communication devices, and sensory resources.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents/carers, and external professionals.
- Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with students with complex communication needs.
