Interim Assistant Accountant

Morgan Hunt are working with a Council in Hertfordshire who are looking to recruit an Interim Assistant Accountant. This is an 8 month contract role paying up to £20 p/hour. This role will require 2-3 days p/week in the office.

Key Responsibilities of the Assistant Accountant:

  • Budget and Financial Management: Assist in preparing and monitoring revenue and capital budgets, final accounts, financial analysis, and project work for allocated service areas.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and complete CIPFA, government, and other financial returns.
  • Income Maximisation: Provide data on grants, fees, charges, and other income, ensuring effective financial planning and resource allocation.
  • Account Management: Maintain allocated accounts for accurate preparation and presentation in the Council’s Statement of Accounts, ensuring compliance and external audit readiness.
  • Project Work: Participate in specific projects and multi-disciplinary working groups as directed by the Team Leader or Accountant.

Previous Skills and Experience of the Assistant Accountant:

  • Experience within a council or other public sector organisations.
  • Part-qualified or actively studying towards a recognised accounting qualification (e.g., AAT, ACCA, CIMA) with a strong understanding of financial management principles.
  • Excellent IT, communication, literacy and numeracy skills.
