An exciting opportunity has arisen at Cardiff and Vale College for a Head of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). The post holder will provide leadership to CAVC’s ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Department. The department supports up to 1,500 learners across Cardiff & Vale. You will ensure that you support our departmental staff to provide a quality learning experience to our learners.

You will manage, control and monitor all resources within the department and ensure the consistent improvement for the outcomes of learners.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • To champion best practice in relation to workforce and workforce development within the Department.
  • To be accountable for the analysis and reporting on Department performance and quality of services/provision, utilising and driving relevant agreed Key Performance Indicators as indicated below.
  • To ensure the best possible experience at every stage of the learner journey, from application and enrolment, through to support and progression.
  • To ensure the best possible learner experience and outcomes as seen in relevant College KPIs.
  • To ensure all key people measures are systematically reviewed and analysed to ensure problem areas corrected via action plans (ie RTW interviews, Compliance, Performance management processes, Capability, Disciplinary).
  • To take full accountability for the management of financial spend and staff utilisation within your department making regular forecasts and recommendations.

You will hold an appropriate teaching qualification and be able to demonstrate experience in working with learners for whom English is not a first language. You will have strong organisation skills and well-developed awareness and understanding of post-16 issues. You will have a clear commitment to learner support and wellbeing with an inclusive, learner centred focus.

Whilst the ability to speak Welsh is not essential for the role, we would love to hear from candidates who are fluent and can engage with learners through the medium of Welsh.
