About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Data Platform with specialised expertise in Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Fabric to lead our data strategy and operations. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the data infrastructure of a dynamic organisation. The role is based in Birmingham on a 24-month fixed-term contract, with the potential for extension based on business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive data platform strategy that aligns with the organisation’s business objectives.
- Lead and mentor the data platform team, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Platform Architecture and Design:
- Architect and design a scalable, secure, and efficient data platform using Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Fabric technologies.
- Oversee the integration and deployment of various data services, ensuring seamless operations across the platform.
- Data Management and Governance:
- Establish and enforce best practices for data management, including data governance, quality, and lineage.
- Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR) and organisational policies.
- Data Integration and Processing:
- Oversee the design and development of ETL processes to integrate data from diverse sources efficiently.
- Utilise Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and other relevant tools to manage data pipelines effectively.
- Analytics and Business Intelligence:
- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver data-driven insights.
- Support the deployment of advanced analytics and machine learning models using Azure Machine Learning, Power BI, and related tools.
- Performance Optimisation:
- Monitor and optimise the performance of the data platform, ensuring high availability and reliability.
- Implement cost management strategies for cloud resources to maximise ROI.
- Security and Compliance:
- Ensure the data platform adheres to the highest security standards, including data encryption, access control, and threat detection.
- Work closely with IT and security teams to manage risks and respond to incidents swiftly.
Key Requirements:
- Technical Expertise:
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Azure, including services such as Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, and Azure SQL Database.
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, with a proven track record of integrating it into enterprise data platforms.
- Leadership Skills:
- Demonstrable experience in leading technical teams and managing complex data projects.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Cloud and Data Architecture:
- Proficiency in designing and implementing cloud-native data platforms.
- Strong background in data modelling, database design, and big data technologies.
- Project Management:
- Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
- Proven ability to manage the entire data lifecycle, from planning and development to deployment and optimisation.
- Certifications:
- Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Data Engineer Associate) are highly desirable
