Set in acres of stunning National Trust gardens, Northern College offers a range of provision for adults on a residential and non-residential basis and is the only adult residential college in the North of England. Our 2023-26 strategy builds on a long and celebrated history of changing lives through education and our ambition is to ensure Northern College meets the needs of its students, communities and the economy in the coming years.
Northern College is seeking to appoint an exceptional Governance Professional to provide leadership, advice and support in all governance activities. As a Senior Postholder this role will report directly to the Board and provide guidance on governance, statutory, constitutional and procedural matters; this role will support the Board and its committees to effectively fulfil their responsibilities.
We are committed to appointing a candidate who has extensive knowledge and understanding of effective corporate governance arrangements ideally within an FE environment and/or the charity sector, together with knowledge of the regulatory framework within which Boards operate. Successful governance experience providing advice and guidance on governance matters within the education sector or other similar sectors is essential.
Our new Governance Professional will have the ability to build consensus along with excellent people skills which support engagement across the College and externally to underpin robust governance. Effective communication in all written and verbal forms, including within governors’ meetings will be essential to the role. The successful candidate will also be extremely organised, work flexibly, with a professional approach to their work, have excellent attention to detail together with the ability to plan and manage deadlines. Candidates will have a relevant degree and/or relevant professional qualification along with Chartered Secretary status or similar relevant equivalent.
