Financial Controller

Morgan Hunt is working with a Regulatory Body in Birmingham who are looking at recruiting a Financial Controller. This is a 12-month contract role paying up to £230 p/day and will offer hybrid working.

This role is part of the Financial Control team working with the 4 team members including – Financial Controller; Assistant Accountant; two Accounts Assistants.

Key Responsibilities of the Financial Controller:

• Supports budget setting, government estimates, month-end/year-end close, and production of the Annual Report & Accounts.
• Engages with internal/external auditors and manages purchase/sales ledgers, staff expenses, VAT, and government data returns.
• Aids in the production of the Annual Report and Accounts and provides capital accounting support.
• Develops and implements an improved control framework, addressing audit recommendations.
• Collaborates with the Finance System team to develop and implement system reports and process improvements.
• Oversees VAT returns, balance sheet reconciliations, and reviews accounting policies, ensuring continuous improvement and modernisation of finance practices.
• Represents the Head of Finance and/or Director in their absence, fostering collaboration across finance teams.

Previous Skills and Experience of the Financial Controller:

• Must have public sector experience.
• Fully qualified CCAB candidates will be preferred.
• Financial Statements / Annual Report & Accounts preparation.
• Strong financial control process improvement reviews and implementations.
• Strong capital accounting, Excel and Financial System skills – Oracle is ideal.
