Building Physics & Sustainability Engineer

Our client are a small Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health engineering design consultancy based in Edinburgh. They offer a range of mechanical and electrical consultancy services within the construction industry from the scheme and detailed design to utility applications and various survey types including dilapidation, acquisition, condition and asset surveys. They also provide full sustainability related services including energy strategies, energy planning statements, building performance modelling using IES-VE, SAP/EPC calculations for building control and final construction requirements. The main sectors they operate across are Healthcare, Residential, Industrial and Education. They are currently seeking a Building Performance Modeller / Sustainability Consultant to join their growing team.

Role

  • Conduct detailed building performance analysis to enhance thermal comfort, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Utilize IES software to model building physics and assess environmental impacts, ensuring optimal building performance.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and clients to provide expert advice and innovative solutions.
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable design strategies that meet environmental standards and regulations.
  • Support project teams in achieving high-performance building certifications and energy efficiency targets.

    Qualifications / Experience

    BSc/MSc or BEng / MEng in a subject related to Building Services Design, Mechanical Engineering or Environmental Sustainability

    Some knowledge and experience of building physics, particularly about heat transfer, energy balance and thermal comfort.

    Excellent communication skills with a positive and flexible attitude.

    Enthusiasm for a career in sustainable building services design & controls underpinned by an understanding of our sector and work.
