Key Accountabilities
- Support the Campus Dean with the development and implementation of a Campus Estates Strategy, including delegated management of Opex and Capex projects.
- Manage, develop and deploy the Building and Technical Services team to maximise value to the Student Experience; this includes direct line management of the Senior Health and Safety Officer, Senior Building and Maintenance Officer and Senior Technicians if appropriate.
- Ensure that the building, rooms, and resources are set-up, maintained, operated appropriately and in a safe manner.
- Ensure and continually improve the accessibility of all aspects of buildings and technical services for all users; liaise with relevant departments to ensure that individual staff, student, and visitor accessibility needs are accommodated.
- Ensure that the operations of the Building and Technical Services team reflects the needs of the University and is informed by the varying demands of the entire Campus community.
- Manage and oversee the opening, closing and security of the building in line with agreed procedures and protocols.
- Manage health and safety compliance on campus, including: o Ensure staff are trained in subjects appropriate to their role, and that there is a sufficient quota of first aiders and fire wardens. o Coordinate the completion and recording of health and safety activities and information, including but not exclusively: routine testing, inspections, internal audits, risk assessments, accidents and near misses, and actions arising from external audits. o Ensure all external venues and activities meet health & safety requirements. Job Description o Be responsible for promoting and ensuring adherence to health and safety policies and procedures within the Campus. Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses.Be the local subject expert on Health and Safety matters. Providing information, advice and support to colleagues as required.
- Ensure physical premises and technical resources are fit for purpose, well maintained, and well presented.
- Manage and oversee a calendar of planned preventative maintenance, repairs, improvements and refurbishments for buildings and equipment.
- Manage local relationship, contract arrangements and performance of external contractors, including security, cleaning, building maintenance and /or specialist technical providers, to ensure they provide an optimal and cost-effective service.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues on Campus, including the Timetabler, to support and inform optimal room utilisation.
- Routinely provide up to date information and ongoing support to the Information Hub.
- Manage and coordinate the setting up and provision of technical support for external events and venues.
- Be responsible for ensuring all internal systems are set-up, maintained, and appropriately utilised by all relevant staff e.g. equipment management, health and safety records, etc. Person Specification The postholder will be a confident and adaptable manager who is comfortable managing a high and varied workload. They will understand the importance of the Building and Technical department in providing a positive environment that enables members of our community to work, learn and create. They will be committed and able to deliver a consistent high quality service provision. Essential Criteria
- Experience of managing physical premises and technical services within a higher education context.
- Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety legislation and regulations. They will have, or be willing to obtain, a NEBOSH qualification.
- Experience of effectively managing a diverse team.
- Highly organised and able to balance multiple priorities.
