Communication Support Worker (BSL) – SEND Department

Location: East London
Hours: Full-time/Part-time
Contract Type: Temporary- Ongoing

Are you passionate about supporting students with special educational needs? Are you skilled in British Sign Language (BSL) and looking to make a real impact? Join our dynamic SEND department and help empower students to achieve their full potential!

We’re urgently seeking a Communication Support Worker (BSL) to provide vital support to students with hearing impairments and additional needs. You’ll play an instrumental role in ensuring that our students can fully participate in all aspects of college life, both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • BSL Communication Support: Facilitate clear and effective communication between students and staff, using British Sign Language to interpret lessons, discussions, and activities.
  • Inclusive Learning: Work closely with the teaching team to adapt learning materials and classroom activities, ensuring accessibility for students with a variety of special educational needs (SEND).
  • One-to-One Support: Provide personalized support to students, understanding their unique needs, strengths, and learning styles to help them thrive in their studies.
  • Empathy and Understanding: Build strong relationships with students, particularly those from diverse social backgrounds, or those with sensory impairments and complex learning needs, to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaboration: Liaise with the SEND department, parents, and external specialists to ensure all students receive tailored support.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proficiency in BSL: Level 3 or above preferred.
  • Experience in supporting students with SEND, especially those with hearing impairments.
  • Empathy & Flexibility: A genuine understanding of, and willingness to learn about, the unique needs of students from diverse social and educational backgrounds.
  • Patience & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to support students with varying communication and learning needs.
